Next Gen ICE CT5 Officially Confirmed!!!!

@BKC1 and GM....I'm not a wagon guy, BUT, build that, and I'm in. Oh my, that is insanely sharp.

Real question is, will it have a manual, will it even be a V8?

F1 is global, so if they want to capitalize on that they'll want to build a 'World' performance car.

If true:

On the plus side, maybe the wagon is ON?

On the minus side, the biggest selling 'world' market (you know where) taxes on engine displacement, with a whopping 40% on anything over 4L. Big reason why Porsche went with a 2L 4cyl for the 718 and down to 3.0 for the 911s.

So what I'm saying is, the next Blackwing might be an 800hp e-hybrid 3.0L V6, auto only

Hold on to your Blackwings, folks :D

Technically, they never said they are going to build a V or a BW, or a V8 for that matter. Just that it'll be ICE. GM being GM, who knows. Money being money, demand being demand, they'd be smart to do "something" performance wise....but.

I also read somewhere that it probably won't come out until late 2027, probably as a 2028. Smart money might not do anything until the year after (MY2029) performance wise, until after the election to see......I'll just stop there.

It would be a pretty crazy move to launch an F1 team in addition to the successful prototype program in WEC and IMSA and then kill off your most special performance street cars without real replacements.

But as you said, GM being GM. I'd be surprised, but they've made plenty of odd decisions over the years.

Yea, buy now to avoid the freaky pussy engine on the way.

I agree @Matt27 , but GM has killed some very good vehicles either just as they get it right, or just because....Fiero, GTO, Camaro, CT6 (especially the CT6V), Chevy SS...the list goes on. It's just GM being GM.

I could be mistaken, but I am leaning towards the CT5-V Blackwing sunsetting in 2026. The next-generation CT5 might reintroduce a V model, likely with a turbocharged V6 or V8 and an automatic transmission only. That said, rumors suggest Cadillac is developing a mid-engine halo car incorporating F1 technology, possibly powered by the LT7 engine. This car could carry the Blackwing name, further elevating the brand’s legacy.

If you’re set on a manual Blackwing, I’d act fast to avoid missing out. Just my opinion.

I remember seeing something recently about Cadillac thought it was a mistake to discontinue the blackwing engine, but didn't trace down the info to verify its accuracy. Maybe they'll bring that back in a CT5 to have a similarly powered, but more fuel efficient CT5. I would just hope they keep the manual option.

Don't get me wrong, a hybrid assist TT 3.0L V6 dual clutch could be very nice, but it seems like the market is going to be very well served by those already - not sure what would be special about a Cadillac in that configuration.

You are correct, if I wanted that (and I had an S4 before) I would not be a first time Cadillac buyer. For me it was 100% the V8 6M that sold me. I’m thinking there’s a good chance it will be some electric motor/ICE combo affair and of course no MT.

Personally I’m hoping they are done so our cars maintain their value.

In a perfect world they will release a two door coupe (manual), wagon (manual), four door CT5VBW redesign (manual) and a super car mid/rear engine to compete with the corvette and flex some F1 features. I was thinking it would be really cool to call the halo car “Blackwing” but it would need to be whispered every time the name is mentioned.

Its hard to imagine the next gen V (whatever it's called) will be nearly as raw and traditional super saloon as the current car. I agree with others that it's going to be more z06 supercar and less sledgehammer (not a sedan either).

I can't even imagine the internal politics within GM on making a mid-engine halo sports/super car a Cadillac. I'm sure the Corvette guys would have a fit.

It's interesting how little penetration the idea of Cadillac as super sports sedans has made in the US, let alone worldwide. I was talking with a very knowledgeable UK enthusiast about what it would be like to bring a 5BW to the UK and he said something to the effect of that it'd be interesting for the comedy value and wasn't sure it could really 'handle properly' when challenged with UK roads

If I were being totally rational about all this, it seems like GM boxed themselves into a corner already with their branding - if they were doing a do-over, I'd think all their motorsport, sports and enthusiast cars would have come under the 'Corvette' brand and 'Cadillac' would excel in making plush modern S-Class and Range Rover competitors.

Although I'm loving the WEC/IMSA campaign (having been to races in both) I think the Cadillac F1 team would need to do something other than come dead last to start changing this perception. I'm rooting for them!

I'm very surprised the ct5 is going away, with the v BW, they had the market for a v8 4 door sedan with a stick. And they're pretty much selling everyone they build. If they were going to cancel it, why even do the redesign for 2025? GM. BangHead.

They will likely reuse a lot of the dash display development when the 2028 CT5 comes out.

If they did anything, it would be built in Bowling Green on the same chassis as the current Corvette. Just like they did with the XLR. The problem is that it was a turd and sold that way. No one really cared for a "sports car" Cadillac.

Maybe it’s time Cadillac DOES eclipse Corvette and then the realignment is complete. Corvette can go back to being the enthusiast option and Cadillac becomes the halo option with super SUV’s, mid-engine sports cars, and some hybrid super sedan. If there was ever a time to blow up historical role play it’s now.
