Modern Spare experience?

Clever seatbelt tethering here!:
The (center) seatbelt actually just hangs back there. It isn't long enough to attach to the spare to hold it in place. I suppose I could attach something to the spare from the belt to keep the tire from shifting on spirited drives. But it doesn't shift enough for me to care about MacGyvering something. Moreover, since the belt is on a retractor, it wouldn't really wortk as an anchoring device for the spare. I have it back there so it's not sitting in the px compartement & ruining the appearance (IMHO) of the backseat since it's never used anyway.

Seat belt extender One of these will fit in the center seat buckle. There are different lengths in rigid, flexible or adjustable styles.

The center shoulder strap will ratchet and lock after pulling it out all the way. As it retracts you’ll hear it click as it goes in and will not come out. So once it’s buckled it will not extend any more til it’s unbuckled and fully retracted. The adjustable style goes from 9” to 26”. It looks like it would be long enough to pass between the backrest 60/40 gap to reach around a spoke to buckle to the shoulder strap like you have it in your picture. The center position buckle is right by the 60/40 gap.

It probably wont keep the tire from moving completely, but it shouldn’t be able to slide around much at all.

Here's the EZ. Tire brand is Linglong and seller said 2500 mile warranty. I'll check the fitment after I find a roadtrip car jack . EZ came with 5 lugs but no where near the 22mm OEM's but as long as they fit then no issue.

The thing takes up a massive ton of trunk space so it's only going in for road trips in the mountains. Or behind the front seat/rear passenger footwell.

Can it fit in the traditional spare location (under the trunk mat)? On the 4BW, there's a large styrofoam spacer with the pump and few other accessories. It comes up easily and might fit the tire.

Dang

To clarify that cropped photo - that insert area is not big enough although I didn't pull the insert. But you can see the floorpan under the spokes there.

The MS will not fit under the trunk mat space.

I tried my Mazda spare T125/70-17 and it won’t fit. I even let the air out and used a ratchet strap to collapse it more but it’s a 1/2” or so from fitting. The MS spare is 18” so it will really be too big to fit.

My old 89 Trans Am had a spare that the tire collapsed into itself to fit in a spot in the trunk. Something like that might work in the space we have.image.jpgThe rear wall is even curved. Left to right is 26” front to rear about 21.5” and about 4” deep.

My GT350 had a good recessed space for the spare tire kit that worked well. But I think cars that are designed now don’t bother with it. I had a tire get sliced on the highway a few summers ago on the Mustang and the pump and goo did not fix it. After that on a 100 degree day and waiting for the flatbed, I bought the kit and kept it in the car.

Thank God for that. I call them run crap tires. My AMG came with those and ditched them 2 weeks into ownership. I tried to sell them, but could not give them away.
yeah I hear ya. I had that impression, then this happened. We were doing some spirited driving in our 2017 Z06 7M and had a blowout. It sounded like a gunshot (my left ear immediately started ringing). SHIT - did we just get shot or shot at? Quick scan my self while asking the wife are you okay? both yes. Whew. THEN I look down and saw this as we coasted down. Nail in the run flat. No harm no foul. Easily drove 40 miles back to our dealer.

The concept is nice, but the ones I had were loud and gave an unpleasant harsh ride. The sidewalls are stiff compared to normal tires. I won’t use them.
