I love the sleeper aspect. That to me was one of the coolest things about the E39 M5 which I hear Cadillac tried to benchmark for the 5BW.
I've got gray, no CF, and a 2022 model that doesn't even have Blackwing badges. I like to think I fly under the radar, but even still I've had random dudes...
Lol I'm that guy... it's not a comprehensive list of all the failures, just the ones reported on this forum. If we go for the number you estimated, 50 motors out of every 6000, that actually is really not great from a modern manufacturing quality point of view.
The reason I made the comment is...
Thanks for posting the link. Notable that the 5BW isn't on the list. Presumably because the raw number of engine failures hasn't met the threshold for an official NHTSA action?
A 5BW and an Emira sounds like an amazing 2-car solution.
I'm sure you already know if you're on Emira forums but Lotus seems to be restructuring ownership.

The party line is that it...
My CT5 has a special feature where the rear quarter window, instead of being glass, has been replaced with a black plastic triangle. You may think, surely not on a $100K car, but maybe it was set up to help with bipping :)
In all seriousness though I always think of this as a Bay Area problem...
Sorry guys, I probably wasn't too clear in my question.
It's my understanding that an overfill is also not great for the engine and am asking a dumb question about how to read that on our dipstick since there seems to be no way of reading above 'full'.
Agree with earlier poster it's wise to...
OK, so I'm probably being a dip-stick about this but I have a question about our dip-stick. This is for checking a dealer performed oil change for potential overfill.
With apologies for the lighting on the picture... the oil is right up to the top of the crosshatch. Seems good... full. There's...
I think you have to have an active OnStar plan with Smart Driver turned on - apparently some dealers opted people in without them knowing the implications. In my case it was off by default from the start.
I don't currently have an OnStar plan, and went through the app looking for it and...
Given how long this has been going on I think we can eliminate a single bad engine builder from consideration. Given the fact that various engine failures are still affecting cars from 2022 through to present it's probably not even a materials or supplier problem. That pretty much leaves it as a...
OK, so follow-up dumb question. How can I tell whether the recent service overfilled the oil? I've driven it >100mi since the service without any apparent issue, but when checking my dipstick to take my first oil consumption reading, there's some oil above the crosshatch section and on the stick...
Well, to reset my baseline, upon the low oil warning, I took the car into the dealer for an oil change (oil life indicator was just under 30%). Between the last oil change and the low oil warning, I drove only about 4000 miles over about 8 months.
I'm hoping they just underfilled it last time...
Porsche had issues with the M96 and M97 engine used in multiple years of 911s and Caymans that could result in catastrophic engine failure (google IMS Bearing). Although the aftermarket came up with some solutions, Porsche simply redesigned the engine on newer models to eliminate said bearing...
13 on the tracker across all model years. It's not really a scientific sample just whoever posts about it here, plus the one from Car&Driver.
For context a rough google search shows 1,763 CT5V Blackwings were produced in MY2022 and there are 4 MY2022 failures on the tracker.
