As I have done for my last several vehicles, I hardwired my UNIDEN R7 into my BW. Pulling the plastic cover off of the mirror was the actually the harder part. Wiretap BLACK to BLACK and WHITE PIN, Wiretap RED to PURPLE and GRAY PIN. Here are some pics for you.This install has been the same for me on my GM vehicles. The Radar detector only receives power when the vehicle is ON, not ACCESSORY , or OFF.

That's an interesting mounting system that attaches to the mirror mount. Where did find that?

great post. I also do this on every car, but my detector of choice is the Valentine One.

If you don't want to directly tap with the wires, you can get the XT5 harness from gen5diy and it just snaps in and works perfectly.
I've used the Gen5DIY P&P harness for my 22 GMC AT4 and it worked perfectly. Do you have a 5BW and what options? I have the live rear mirror & PDR, so I didn't want to spend the $59 before verifying what you have or don't have? I have also used the OP method many times with success. Thanks,

Easy plug-n-play. Save $60 just buy a Wiretap from AMAZON and see my pics in the post. GM wiring is the same, and it was just as easy an install on the BW as it was for my 2 AT4s, and ZL1 Camaro. I have the 360 surround and rear camera parking pkg. No problems and doesn't turn on unless the car is ON.

Nice pics! (better than mine from this past Summer...I was a sissy when it came to totally removing the cover... thought I'd crack it).

I've been doing these with my Escorts (radars....c'mon people) in my GM cars for years too.

So easy with the blendmount + mirror taps.

5BW with live mirror, but no PDR

Thanks for the write up, worked like a charm. I used my nylon interior trim tools to pop the cover off. Just work around the edges, took all of 60 seconds.

@Rob should sticky this one

I have a blendmount that I used for my Dashcam in my ATS-V. It won't work on the 4BW. It requires a mirror mount that runs down the center axis of the car to work and apparently it does for the 5BW folks but in the 4BW that mount is canted so you can't get the mount squared up to the front.

Most interesting. I used it on my ATS-V but the mirror mount on my 4BW is canted about 30 degrees to the right of the centerline of the car. I would use it for a dashcam and that wouldn't give me the coverage I want. I don't think the mount will articulate where it is attached to the electronics on the window, but I will check that later today. So your mount runs down the centerline of the car? The Blendmount has multiple axes to move up or down but has no articulation to the right or to the left so requires a mirror stalk that is straight forward.

I’ve got it hanging directly below the mirror I’m not sure if the electronics you have differ than mine - my car is a manual with PDR

It turns out the mirror stalk does articulate at the window end. It is tough to turn but mine is canted and I was able to get it back to straight with some effort. So mine was just delivered canted to the right. Now it is straight. I have already used adhesive to put the dash cam up but it is good to know that I can again use the Blendmount if I ever need to reinstall the dashcam.

Thought I'd share my install now that I'm done tweaking it. I tapped into the same circuit as @A-A-RON , but cut and resoldered it together with a breakout on the mirror side of the connector. That went to a separate connector so I could wire in my radar detector, and dash cam.
The mount is my design and 3d printed:
