Due to so many kid activities where I have to drive many kids with gear so been driving the pickup. I have only driven the BW 1000 miles this year. But dang a rock just jumped up from a random car and there goes the windshield. Now have to find a reputable place to fix windshield.

That very likely will not buff out.

Sorry to see this happen and hopefully you can get that fixed up as soon as possible or replaced most likely because it doesn't look like it can be filled and repaired. I could be wrong though. Let us know what the glass company says after getting a few quotes. I hear some people use Safelite and then there's additional options as well.

I had the same thing happen to me while driving on the freeway. I had a lot of quotes and did I not use safelite as they were really expensive. Unfortunately, I could not get it filled as it was too close to the edge and was told it will keep spreading. So I had to get it replaced. No need for any recalibration though. Everything still works as before.

Key words, something jumped up and hit YOU. Tell your insurance company and in most states it's either free or $100 for a replacement under your comp policy. Safelite is a great option - just make sure they know you want an OEM glass with the right setup for your sensors (they replaced mine with no issues in my driveway at home.)

Living in MN - I just pay for full glass coverage. So no $ out of my pocket. Just wondering if safelite or some other company. I have used safelite before. Some turned out good. Some not so much. It literally is just making sure they don’t scratch car and align and glue it back on.

I have full glass coverage with USAA. I got a rock chip right in front of my face and called SafeLite. (This was in my Kia Telluride). I had to bring the car to a store because my car has the drivers assist camera and it needs to be calibrated after a new windshield is installed. USAA will only put an OEM factory glass back at no cost if the car is under a year old. I wanted factory Kia glass and had to pay $143 out of pocket on top of the $630 paid for by USAA.

I used Safelite years ago for a replacement windshield for my Pontiac Grand Prix with HUD. I was worried that it wouldn't be right and can't remember if it was OEM or not... But even back then did a great job.

All this talk about them reminds me of this:

This happened at VIR on my C8. I paid $100 deductible & got it replaced with OEM by Safelite. I had to bring it to them bc of the PDR & other stuff ilke what we have on our BW's. No issues with the replacement windshield after 40K miles (& counting).

Go with OEM glass installed by whomever you trust. Otherwise they will replace it with the cheapest stuff they can find. Your wipers will chatter and it will be much more susceptible to breaking in the future. I went through three 'Safelite specials' in rapid succession until I got smart and demanded the BMW dealer replace the windshield. It was worth the extra expense.

This is the WORST, but very commonplace in AZ. So much so that I believe the majority of insurance plans just embed windshield coverage into the plans.

True story -- I got a large rock chip the first 48 hours after bringing the car home. I'm on my 4th windshield in 2.5 years of ownership. IF you use Safelite, always ask for a "Master Technician", and only ask for OEM glass -- apparently the other glass they use doesn't come with specific harnesses and tend to leave you with a wind noise about 1-2 months after install (ask me how I know... :-( ))

There's a seemingly never-ending supply of small rocks and almost nothing to stop them on their mission to damage your vehicle. Other areas have moisture, terrain, and vegetation to slow them down. The desert is just this barren, endless, mostly flat home for angry rocks. That's my take after living there for too long.

It’s partly due to certain roads and another component is driving style. I lived in Southern Arizona a total of around 25 driving years and have never replaced a windshield on any of several vehicles. I won’t replace a windshield unless a big crack develops.

Now, my Jeep JK windshield is pretty beat up, but holding together. It gets epoxy repair occasionally. If I replaced my windshield on my Jeep every time I got a rock chip, it would be very frequently. Why bother, it’s a Jeep.

My cousin lives in Gilbert AZ and he has told me that he has to replace one of his windshields at least twice a year !

Multitude of reasons, but it's definitely not JUST environmental. For those of us who live in the congestion of Phx, its:

1) Landscapers driving around doing their "xeroscaping" work with rocks constantly falling out of the back of their beds and onto the freeway (this is the #1 cause).

2) Continuous construction of housing, apartments, commercial real estate, freeway expansion, etc, with gravel being transported in large trucks to these construction sites on all of the in-city freeways, dropping gravel and stones everywhere.

3) Lifted trucks/Jeeps that go out into the desert and bring all the small rocks/gravel into the city and leave them on the freeways

4) Lack of rain to clean it all out

Once I'm out of the city, such as day trip to Payson, Flagstaff, Tucson, definitely not as many rocks/gravel. I've decided we can't have nice cars in Phx unless you only use it on the weekends. This will be my last expensive daily driver.

Phx, blows for nice vehicles! I just ran over a big ass wadded up tarp today! The only thing I haven't hit on the roads in AZ is human.....It won't surprise me when I do though.
