What Happened to the Optional Magnesium Wheels for the V-Series Blackwing Cadillacs?

The 2022 CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing will offer magnesium wheels that are the first of their kind for any Cadillac vehicle.

Optional magnesium wheels are nowhere to be found when ordering a 2022 Cadillac CT4-V or CT5-V Blackwing

Back in October, Cadillac issued a press release announcing that special high performance magnesium wheels would be an option for the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing models.

However, after looking at the available options and pricing, we noticed that the magnesium wheels were nowhere to be found.

We reached out to Cadillac and here’s their response:

The magnesium wheels are an option that Cadillac will offer on the CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing, but it will not be available at the start of production.

We expect the forged aluminum alloy wheel to be the volume wheel on both cars at launch and have planned for that demand.  However, we expect to have the magnesium wheel available for enthusiasts in the near future.

While a reason wasn’t given as to why they wouldn’t be offered at the start of production, given all of the issues going on right now with the pandemic and suppliers, it’s possible that enough of them couldn’t be produced in time by the start of Blackwing production.

The 2021 Corvette is currently plagued by a shortage of the rear black trident wheels that are an option when ordering a 2021 Corvette.  Some customers have been waiting for weeks for their wheels with no ETA in sight.

It’s possible that this could also be an issue with Cadillac’s magnesium wheels which would explain why they didn’t offer them for the start of Blackwing production.  Hopefully, we’ll see them later this year!
