Here's something you don't see every day. Time-lapse pictures. Why? I don't know. Who cares?
Back in April, 1979 I worked at an Amoco station on I-55 in Illinois, almost a year out of high-school. I had just bought a 1971 442, no rust, all stock- paid a pretty price of $1,600, and I had just got the registration and license plates that day to drive to work. So naturally, I got hold of a Polaroid and took a shot. Gas price that day was $0.799.
Then, years later, we were visiting my dad after his stroke, I stopped in to get gas there on July 2, 2008, and thought, why not get another picture with these high gas prices? Had a 2006 GMC pickup at the time.
And then, just yesterday, Sept 1, 2025, after attending a newly-deceased friend's celebration of life, I stopped in again. Wasn't even thinking about it when the wife said why not take a new picture while it's still here and you're still here? So, that's what I did. So here's her CT5 at virtually the same spot my 71 442 was all those years ago. The sign was messed up, but unleaded gas is 3.299 (premium was over $4). Still can't believe it's been 46 years.
Now if I'd just get off my ass and restore my current 71 442, I should drive it there before I croak.
Just thought I'd share.
