MY2026 - What is the ordering process like?

I am new to the Cadillac world, but know exactly what I want. Therefore, I'll have to order:
  • CTS5-V Blackwing
  • 6 Speed Manual Transmision
  • Cyber Yellow
  • Tan Semi-Aniline Seats
  • CF1 (and perhaps CF2)
How does the order process work? Do you put down a deposit, and then wait in your local dealer queue for an allocation? Can you still change the order if there is an allocation up to a point?

How do constraints come into play? Do you have a chance to adjust for them?

There are several dealers in the area. What questions should I ask to be the most time-efficient?

Any thoughts on using non-local dealers?

I'd love any input!

You put in an order with your dealer. It sits in the system until the dealer gets an allocation. At that time there may be options that are on "constraint." You either drop those options from your order or wait for the next allocation and hope the constraints are lifted. Check the GM order codes sticky to see the last point at which you can modify your order. It's generally just before going to production.

Some dealers ask for a deposit others don't. Make sure if you are asked for a deposit that it is refundable if you change your mind the allocation is sent to production.

Allocations are given out based on how many of that car the dealer sells. High volume dealers get more allocations. This means the smaller dealers will generally have to wait until the end of the production year when all the big dealers have tons of stock built up. Ask your dealer how many 5BWs they sold last year or how long you could be expected to wait for an allocation and if they charge a markup (ADM). If you can swing the drive, Sewell in Dallas doesn't charge ADM and is one of if not the highest volume 5BW dealers. But people know this and the line is forming already for MY26 there.

Fantastic, thank helps a ton. Thank you!

I don't think this part is accurate. My understanding is it's just a bit of a crap shoot for when smaller dealers get allocation though they certainly get less than the high volume guys. If what you said was the case smaller dealers would probably never get any at all since Sewell would just sell all of them.

Here's a whole bunch of info on how the whole system works.

These are fantastic!

Time to hit the phones tomorrow.

Thanks! Those two posts are the most detailed and informative I've seen so far about the order process. I had learned some of process along the way but this ties it all together.

I don't know if 2026 ordering is open yet, but most likely a dealer will just have you submit an order as a 2025 and when 2026 comes out they will ask you to re submit your build as a 2026.

Its possible Cyber Yellow will not be available for 2026 so have a backup colour in mind.

Realistically you need to ask the dealer if you are first in line for the next allocation and you need to ask if they received a Blackwing last model year (for high volume dealers this isn't necessary).

If you are first in line at a high volume dealer, you're set. The only thing that will happen is the allocation they get for you might have constraints (usually this is CF1, CF2 and carbon seat backs) so you might have to skip the allocation if you really want the constrained items or you proceed without.

If you go with a high volume dealer (such as Sewell, courtesy of our boy Dustin) it won't be much of an issue.

2026 orders are open and have been for a couple weeks. No clue how many but Sewell has some waiting there.
When did they open? I keep getting told by Sewell that they are not open yet

Maybe the term "open" is too vague and is uhh open to interpretation? I know they can submit orders to the GM system for 2026 MY about two weeks ago, maybe earlier but that's when I had one submitted. That doesn't mean they have gotten allocation for 2026 cars yet and maybe that's what sewell is saying as "open". Maybe I'm using the term incorrectly 🤷‍♂️.

I assume your order status code is 1100?

My dealer explicitly stated my order is a 2027 and that the 2026 order book is already closed across the country due to constraints on seat massagers. 🤷‍♂️

Dr Zoom Zoom has been back for a god damn week and he's already stirring up trouble.

He's trying to bring back the nostalgia of this forum during the Great Goat Rodeo.

Yeah my Sewell salesperson hasn't responded in like 3 weeks. Sent her an email this weekend & had an out of the office. If she doesn't respond by tomorrow, gonna call & talk to the blackwing king directly.
