I would argue the whole point of cars like this (and the M5, RS7, and former E63) is that you get top tier performance and luxury with every day usability. I daily drove my 09 manual V for 14 years and everything I've read indicates the 5BW is better in every way.
I just hope they don't go the BMW/MB route and turn it into a hybrid. But based on decades of watching GM I think they will do that, right as the market moves to something else leaving them with the wrong product at the wrong time :)
But who knows. A few years ago when they released the CT5-V...
I had similar wear on my 09 V (although not as bad). I'm thin but what was causing it was my work badge. I would clip the holder on my belt on my left and it would rub on the seat when exiting. Once I noticed the damage I stopped wearing my badge in the car.
You owned BMW's before right? So you should be very used to that:) Germans love to over-engineer.
But even somewhat simple cars can have the same problems. Mass manufacturing makes it possible to make millions of some widget cheaply, then they retool for something else and won't go back to...
I used something similar. Got 1 for the diff, one for the transmission. That way I don't have to clean them, which would be a major PITA. And at least the diff one lasted 10 years because the gear oil kept the o-rings soft.
I don't think I bothered. Since I was replacing with OEM fluid and it didn't need a change anyway. Now I have a QuickJack so would feel a lot better starting the car while raised. And I'm less nervous being under the car in general.
That "75-W90" on the website is probably a misprint. The MTF fluid doesn't list a weight in the bottle. The Delco 88862624 LS Gear Oil the 09V used did show "75W-90" on the bottle.
I did the transmission fluid change once on my 09 V at 30k miles. I used the GM 88861800 fluid which was repackaged Dexron III ATF. There were a ton of threads on this back in 2010. GM moved to a newer Dexron IV ATF and that was specifically not allowed in the manuals transmissions. Some...
My wife's 07 335i had 2 HPFP replacements then was good until 140,000+ miles when we sold it.
It needs to said on every forum: Even if you see a 100 posts on an LT4/LSA/LS6/S63/B58/N54 engine failure that is less than 1% of the numbers on the road. Shit happens, that's what the warranty is for...
This was me. No lifestyle risk factors, young, no family history. Out of the blue and very low survival rate. Probably have dodged the bullet but no more "saving" my car. Drive the hell out of it because you never know.
My youngest might actually like cars when she's older. She laughs anytime I floor it. And one time after a spirited drive she gets out of the backseat and says "Daddy, what is that yummy smell?". I ask, "You mean brakes and tires?", "Yes! It's yummy".
So there is hope for the next generation...
On my V1 I bought an OEM wheel and mounted the least worn F1 SC RFT and gm jack kit and the spare in the well. Never needed it. On the V2 I just risked it and old got a puncture one time but I was on my winter set rear which happened to be a Pilot Sport A/S+ RFT at that time.
Back to the book...
The CT6-V looked interesting but so low volume and I'm sure that Blackwing engine is impossible to get parts for.
My V2 was single owner when I sold it...but at 105,000 miles. It was a great car and was very reliable.
Michelin used to say don't even let the rubber flex for 24 hours after the tires have been below freezing. I don't see that literature anymore, so I don't know if that still applies. I would not use the 4S below 50 wet or dry if I could help it. Here in NC, there are few times where after I swap...
Mine came today. Looks like high quality binding/printing. I skimmed a few sections and it seems like it will be an informative book. The pics brought back memories of my CTS-V1 (2004-2009) and CTS-V2 (2009-2023). And I miss the STS-V. I almost convinced my wife to let me get a used one as a...
I used to think like that...buy the last "good" car to keep it "forever". But thanks to the miracle of modern mass production, it just isn't realistic to think any car can be kept on the road indefinitely. With old cars (<1970s) you could probably make just about any part that fails in a machine...
In my 14 years of owning my 09 CTS-V there were a few years where I had to do Pilot Sport All season rears in run flats. Run flat all-seasons are still superior to summer tires when the temps get into the 40s and below. Over the years I had PS2, PSS, PS4S, A/S+, A/S3, and A/S3+ in OEM sizes. The...
