Depends on the V8 too. The LT4 is bulletproof and the LT2 and LT6 are also reliable. The LT1 and LT5 were also reliable but currently out of production. It's just the L87 that has issues right now.

What lip are you referring to? Around the hub? If so, it's not necessary. If its hub centric, it should be a snug fit around the hub, if they are lug centric, then they are tight around the lugs but not around the hub. Lug centric is more universal fit but hub centric is typically safer.
