    Blown engine

My dealer hasn't touched my car yet, but Im quite certain no dealer is going to install the wrong engine.

    Blown engine

I had no doubt before the part numbers. That dealership would have been in a lot of trouble if they installed the wrong long block. They aren't that incompetent.

I'm not concerned at all that they replaced your engine with an LT4 long block. I'm certain they did.

We'll never know, you have your opinion, and I have mine apparently. GM, like most manufacturers will continue to support a vehicle for up to 10 years after production which is the industry standard so I fully expect GM to have a surplus of LT4 long blocks out there for MANY years to come.

    Blown engine

It could have been at another dealer or likely GM has these in a warehouse ready to ship to dealers as needed. With the ZL1 and C7 Z06 no longer being produced, I'm sure there's a surplus of LT4 long blocks available right now.

    Blown engine

Of course. They replaced it with an LT4 long block.

    Blown engine

There was no need to replace every component of the engine. They likely replaced the long block which is where the failure was. Keeps cost down that way.

The cooling capacity in these cars only needs to be good enough to keep them at the desired temp. To my knowledge the ZL1 has better cooling than the Blackwing anyway so there goes that theory. What does matter is IAT temps which the blower intercooler bricks have control over and the cooling...

    Blown engine

There's no difference in intercooler brick size on all LT4s, Z06, ZL1, or Blackwing, the only difference between them is the lids. While the taller lid on the Blackwing does help very slightly with airflow it was really only a restriction on the 2015-2016 Z06. I believe the timing increases are...

    Blown engine

I have seen up to 32 degrees of timing in some dyno tests on Youtube. I agree with your assessment this could be a potential cause for these failures. The tuning is VERY aggressive as stated by top tuners. These cars do have much better throttle response than the ZL1 and I agree that it seems...

    Blown engine

Has the blown motor registry grown beyond 16? Last time I checked that thread, it was showing 16 engines. That's a VERY small number given that there are roughly 6,000 or more of these cars built.

    For anyone using wheel spacers...

5mm is safe, Discount has silly rules.

    Blown engine

Naa. Not only different plants but different parts completely.

    For anyone using wheel spacers...

This. 5-6mm should be max on stock lugs.

    Blown engine

Curious to hear what your dealership or GM determines was the cause of failure.

    Blown engine

Do you know if the car is 100% stock since you bought it used? Also, according to GM, more Cadillac owners track their cars than Corvettes or Camaros so I'm curious what kind of early life the car had. Also, is the car an M6 or A10 trans?

    Blown engine

It's not the oil pump that's failing though. GM did resolve the issue in 2019+ model ZL1s and I haven't heard of any oil pumps failing on CT5 Blackwings.

    Blown engine

Totally different engines assembled in different plants. No relation whatsoever.

I swapped pulley, anyone have experience?

Two steps colder won't be necessary at that boost level. I had a 2021 Camaro ZL1 before my Blackwing that made 700whp on 93 octane, FBO, ported blower and 9.45 lower pulley making right at 15psi of boost and the plugs were one step colder and worked just fine.

I swapped pulley, anyone have experience?

Its typically recommended to swap plugs to one or two steps colder when increasing boost depend on how much. With a ported blower and 2.3, I would say one step colder would be almost guaranteed.
