Former luker, finally found my 5BW

Congrats! Best color, nice choice. I would have thought in Nevada that you could drive year-round. Does Reno get a lot of snow?

    2025 CT5 & CT5-V Blackwing Order Support Guide

In my limited experience with bmw's ccb, they performed fine when cold. YMMV. I still prefer the pedal feel of steel brakes, but with BBW that may not be as large of a factor. I'm still too cheap to get them just to aid in cleaning.

Multi-topic thread on retirement and second car

I had not heard about the Supra, that's too bad. It's an expensive car for a track toy, and I had a Z4 which is similar and I didn't care for it all that much. The more I hear about the BRX/FRS the more I like it, although the recent class action on the engines has me more concerned. I have...

Multi-topic thread on retirement and second car

I like that perspective, thanks. Financially I'm planning to live past 95 although realistically, that's unlikely. Also, I don't consider any inheritance in my planning, although it's very likely that I will outlive my mother, and she's probably not going to spend all of her money before then...

    2025 M5 vs. 2025 CT5-V BW

I've driven the M5CS (previous gen) and agree with others that it is the one to get, not the current fugly hybrid generation. For me, the manual is a must-have, so the BMW never came into consideration, despite my extensive history with the brand. Also, if you value your comfort, the caddy has...

    Software update letter from Cadillac?

Sorry, I just now found the other thread about this. Linked post explains with a link to the recall instructions for the dealer. Doesn't seem like it's that critical to me. Not worth a special trip.

Multi-topic thread on retirement and second car

True dat. I will look into it some more, although honestly as a track car, I was looking for something a bit less expensive. Primarily space. No place to park. Finances come in a close second, as around here aside from the cost of buying the extra cars, I have to insure them and pay...

    Z06 guys are lucky

FTFY. Of course, now that I think about it, GM doesn't really build that many cars any more, do they? It's mostly trucks and SUVs and crossovers, which are only good at being a lousy compromise.

Multi-topic thread on retirement and second car

Thanks all for the thoughtful replies. Funny, no one suggested working longer to delay retirement. ;) As for the Camaro, I did consider them, they are surprisingly expensive in the used market. The GR86/BRZ is not, they depreciate quickly and are a strong contender. I'm used to...

Multi-topic thread on retirement and second car

I figure that a lot of folks here are at or near retirement, and also many of us are enthusiasts. I'm looking at retiring next year, not because I'm old or dying, but because I'm tired of working at the place I'm at and in my 60s, unlikely to get another job in this industry (I/T) as a...

    Z06 guys are lucky

Wait. I missed this in my original reply. Your signature has this (edited): So, it appears that you are even more fickle than I am, which is a difficult task. You had the BW for almost 8 months, and then the Z06 for less than a year. What are you driving now, and how long will that one...

    Z06 guys are lucky

The first sentence is generally correct, but the second quoted sentence is, dare I suggest, a bit harsh. I owned a C5 Z06, which was only available with a manual transmission. I am in that small (and shrinking) camp of enthusiasts who think that any proper sports car or "performance"...

    CT4 BW to Dark Horse?

That electric thing is four doors, although it's not really a Mustang, IMHO. Hey, I resemble that remark! I shopped the Bullitt and thought it was great but for me, personally, I didn't want to spend the premium and ended up with a base GT (saving thousands). No argument though that the...

CT5-V Oil change for ct5V BW

I too use ramps to change the oil, and since the plug is near the rear, I don't sweat the 1.8 ounces that may be remaining in the pan. However, I have been known to jack up the other side of the car to help let that last little bit drain out...

    Used Value Trend

If you still want to save the manuals, the C8 is out. The C7 is great but honestly I prefer the C6, especially the 6-speed over the 7-speed.. The Miata is great if you like cheap plastic everywhere and no power (but it is a blast to drive). Really you need the Cayman/Boxster, in 6-cylinder...

Dealers That Are Not Charging Above MSRP

All of this is true and excellent advice. I'll add here that end of the month, end of the quarter and if possible, end of the year are the times when you are most likely to snag a discount. Especially on domestic cars, the manufacturers have incentives based on number of units moved. If you...

Those who ordered Gloss Black V Badging Nameplates

I can't decide if these would look extra-super stealthy on my black car, or just stupid? ;shrug

What did you do to your Blackwing today?

I was going to ask why, but then I surmised from other posts that you upsized the tires. I'm happy to see that they offer the A/S in our sizes, as that's what I'll go to when baby needs new shoes. We should do a Triangle get-together for all of us BW owners... any ideas? Oh, and my...

    CT5-V Carmax experience

So yeah, scummy but not unprecedented and not unexpected, quite frankly, and unfortunately. When I was car shopping, I found a very lightly used (800 mile) CT5-V-BW at a Mercedes dealership, emailed back and forth and called and talked with the salesperson, and I insisted that they go out to...

CT5-V How to install lowering springs

I did not and I did look at the post in your link (not the entire thread). Me personally, as a general rule, I do not like cars (any car) that has been lowered that much. Too many compromises (ride, handling, clearance) not to mention that I just think it looks silly. But I'm not going to...
