The dealership would only use an oil sample to deny a warranty. Unless there is a diagnosable issue, they're not going to do anything, agreed.

You really need multiple samples to get good data. Tracking an increase in certain metals over time can indicate wear. I agree that a good ear can detect a lot before it's an issue, I just like to jam out too much. It's also too hot here to not have the windows up and the A/C on.

Yup. I do 5k intervals, or after heavy use, like a trip to the tail of the dragon. I use 5w40 for that since I see higher oil temps.

I do all my own and log it in a spreadsheet. It's much quicker for me to to just pull it into the garage on ramps and knock it out than go to the dealership. If you change your oil frequently, you're going to do so much good in the long run. Where can you log the maintenance on the My GM
