Multi-topic thread on retirement and second car

Yep, they aren't cheap if you want it to feel realistic. My budget planning number for the sim rig is in the 5 digits (to the left of the decimal point :ROFLMAO:). And, for those that may be wondering, I have full approval for the spending from the comptroller. She's a keeper, lol.

Multi-topic thread on retirement and second car

I retired just under a year ago at age 60. Best thing I ever did. We had been saving for retirement for many years, so I didn't anticipate any financial issues, but taking that leap and quitting your job is a bit stressful. I can tell you that after one year, finances are the least of my...

    CT4 BW to Dark Horse?

I considered a DH when I started shopping for my car but ultimately went with the 4 BW. I had a base level S650 as a rental last week, and I have to say that it definitely validated my choice of the Cadillac even when you factor in that it was a "well broken in" rental with the base...

    Spring Mountain Impressions

I did. The insurance has a $2500 deductible, but if you end up in a tire wall it would be pretty easy to do damage well over that amount. That said, the way the school is run makes it pretty unlikely that would happen unless you REALLY mess up or you have a complete loss of brakes. I did it...

    Spring Mountain Impressions

I did the Spring Mountain class last week. What a blast! The instructors are very easy to work with and work hard to tailor their instruction to each student's skill level. As it turns out, I was able to knock off much of my rust far quicker than I expected. The class was so good that I...

    Spring Mountain Impressions

I was there last week. I was talking to one of the instructors, and he said that Cadillac has approached them about doing a Level 1 class using Blackwings. I would be on-board for that.

CT5-V Reluctant to change oil despite 0% life remaining

It may be excessive now, but please note this was my experience from 25+ years ago. Back then, it was definitely needed. I could see a noticeable increase in oil temps with M1 5W30 between the first and last sessions in a track weekend. This was with a first gen Small Block Chevy. Oils have...

CT5-V Reluctant to change oil despite 0% life remaining

As others have pointed out, you can determine your change interval by the oil life monitor or a max of one year since the last change for normal street use. If your use profile includes track days, you will need to change it more frequently. I did many track days in the past, and I would put...

    Spring Mountain Impressions

I'm scheduled for the class next week (November 6-7). Can't wait! My wife has zero interest in attending, although I always ask, so this will be a solo trip.

Any pics or videos of Deep Space Metallic on a real car?

I saw one over the weekend at the Cadillac display during the Petit Le Mans. As stated above, it has a lot of metallic in it, and it does look noticeably different depending on the lighting. It looked dark gray to me in the direct sun, gray with subtle blue/purple hints in indirect lighting...

CT4-V BW -- Fuel Cutoff engages at different RPM

It turns out that was the problem. I was just barely touching the clutch just like you described. Thanks!

CT5-V On the fence 50/50 between Argent Silver and Radiant Red - convince me 😄

I have Radiant Red, but also seriously considered Argent Silver. I think the silver looks great on our cars, but the look of Radiant Red on a sunny day is absolutely stunning. Pictures can't really do it justice - it truly is Radiant. The car actually looks like it's glowing, lol.

CT4-V BW -- Fuel Cutoff engages at different RPM

Yes, all the driving assists were on. I haven't really played with any of the PTM modes, and I drive around in Tour or My Mode 98% of the time, so I'll definitely look into that. That makes perfect sense.

CT4-V BW -- Fuel Cutoff engages at different RPM

I have about 3800 miles on my 4BW manual. I've noticed when I do full throttle runs through the gears that the fuel cutoff sometimes engages a little below 6000 RPM. This does not happen every time I run through the gears, and there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason as to when or why it...

    Spring Mountain Impressions

I am scheduled for November 6-7. I'm really looking forward to this. I've done several driving schools and track days in the past, but it has been almost 20 years since my last track day. I'm sure I won't be anywhere near the fastest since I have a bunch of rust to knock off my driving...

What did you do to your Blackwing today?

Did the first oil change yesterday. This was also the first use of my new Race Ramps. I really like them, especially the ability to separate the ramp portion from the stand part. Of course, the oil filter had apparently been installed by an 800 lb. gorilla. I deformed the filter can pretty...

    HVAC Issues

Final update: The A/C is still working perfectly two months after the repair. I think we can put this thread to bed.
