TireRack recently tested 6 ultra high performance all season tires. They rated the Pirelli P Zero AS +3 highest - most refined road manners with "lively" steering. The PS AS4 was rated high for steering and performance, but was not as good in ordinary driving. The Conti DWS 06+ was criticized...
I've been riding for 60 years, mostly sport touring bikes or naked bikes that I converted to sport touring duty with wind protection and hard luggage. I tried roadracing but quickly learned that I'm not coordinated enough to run at 10 tenths without occasionally making the tiny mistakes that...
In planning retirement I think it is important to avoid being too pessimistic financially. I retired at 56 and made very pessimistic assumptions about how much income I needed in retirement and how well my investments would do. My pensions have covered my daily living costs for 20 years, so...
Thanks for posting this. I had a buzzing that appeared only in a narrow rev range while climbing a moderate hill, mainly in 5th just below 50 mph. It sounded like a screw loose under the console. I never thought of pressing on the trim on top of the screen until I read your post since it...
2024 4BW R0460275
MT, mid-level seats
Salesman added heated ventilated seats and suede interior, which I really didn't want. Bought the car anyway since I didn't want to wait for another allocation.
I wondered if the electronics adjusts the clutch to help avoid stalling when starting out in first, just as the throttle is managed to make it possible to pull away without touching the gas pedal. Not only is the engagement point higher in first, but the engagement seems to happen over a larger...
The most annoying issue with my 4BW is the clutch engagement height. When starting off in 1st the clutch engages at approximately the mid-point of the total travel. Unfortunately the engagement point for all upshifts is much closer to the floor - roughly 1/4 of the total travel.
Sixty years...
I think there are two reasons for low activity compared to, say, BMW 2 and 3 Series forums. One, far fewer of these cars have been sold. Second, and more importantly, these cars hit their targets so well that there is less scope for performance and handling modifications. Hence the posts here...
All seasons = shoulder seasons. On my spring and fall driving vacations I usually see temperatures between 30 and 80 degrees F. Only all season tires work well for that range.
You make a good point about varying balance. I assumed the Potenza Sport AS on the front would stick better than the...
I drive mountain backroads in BC for entertainment only outside of tourist season. Morning temperatures can be well be 40 degrees F, so keeping the PS4S tires long term is not an option.
From Tire Rack reviews on PS 4S vs other summer performance tires, it appears that the PS 4s doesn't rank...
I would like performance all season tires on my CT4V BW. The standard choice is the PS AS4. However, several tests on Tire Rack claim these tires reduce steering feedback appreciably compared to the stock PS 4S summer tires. I changed from an M240i mainly to get better steering feedback...
I find the benefits of a manual depend on how I am driving.
For ordinary driving and running unfamiliar mountain roads at less than 8/10s the satisfaction of operating a manual well is very high. It adds appreciably to the pleasure of driving and makes boring commutes much more interesting...
Here's a trip I've been doing twice a year for many years: Drive 12 hours to the area with the best roads in Canada. Spend the next two days, 10 hours a day, driving those roads aggressively. Then drive home overnight, sleeping in the car at a rest area for an hour and on the ferry and get...
My problem is the opposite. When driving aggressively in the twisties I sit closer and my knee is under the dash so it doesn't touch the hard edge father back. On long trips I need to stretch out more so I sit farther back and the hard edge becomes a problem.
Knee pad is a great idea that...
The hard trim strip at the top of the transmission tunnel is the only contact point for my right leg, and that's where I like to rest my leg on long trips. It gets uncomfortable quickly. Is there an aftermarket solution to better match the shape of the tunnel to a leg resting against it? (I...
Thanks, Dirkbg. I didn't see your post as that thread ended before I got interested in this issue and it didn't come up in my searches. Between your slides and Ty88's I think I have a good understanding of PTM.
Thanks, Ty88. This bit about the lights clarifies the ambiguity in the Manual. It's disappointing that Cadillac didn't bother to explain that a light saying a nanny is off doesn't necessarily mean it is off.
Spring Mountain instructors probably are the best authority on these systems after...
I've spent a ridiculous amount of time reading this thread and several others, plus the relevant pages in the CT4 Owner's Manual (225 - 233), trying to figure out what the nannies do in the various possible settings. I think the root cause of the problem is a significant ambiguity in the...
I wash my cars once a year, in the fall to get the bugs off for the winter. I simply don't care that others think I am a slob. What they don't realize is that having a clean car all the time tells me that they have little going on in their lives that is more interesting than washing a car.
I read C&D and a couple others and I'm surprised to hear that some 911s have a problem with rev hang. It's not something that is mentioned in road tests, possibly because the writers don't want to discourage the purchase of manuals. Or, maybe if it's not your car it is not bothersome. For...
