I'd be interested to know if the build dates of the engines that failed coincide with any days GM was having a strike. Sabotage happens a lot during strikes especially if they drag on.
Personally I'm never buying another car that doesn't have CCBs. I'm SO sick of cleaning wheels and just rinsing them off and having them be spotless is a magical experience I never want to live without. Sure, 9K is a lot but over the life of the car how much is that going to save you in time...
I quit using or accepting certified/cashiers checks because like regular checks payment can be stopped on them. If you're going to do that make sure whoever you plan to give it to is willing to accept it!
I send wires quite often. Never had one go sideways. That said, you can always call their bank to verify you're dealing with a known quantity. The wire transfer (if it's going to a dealer) should also be in the dealers name in some fashion. You should also verify over the phone with the dealer...

That's actually not true. For example; the pistons are fracture split. If one builder were mismatching caps or putting them on backward, mayhem could ensue.

Depends on a lot of factors. Which version you choose (they still make the Evolution in addition to the RS), which drivetrain, whether or not you pick all the carbon bits and what state you get it sent to you (they can build you a car or they'll send you everything in a crate and you can build...
We put a supercharger on a friends Exige and that CEL was a permanent fixture no matter what you did. We used to commute to work in it. Crawling in and out was the only downside. 5 stars! :D

Amen. I'd give anything for a car like the Blackwing but with 100% analog gauges, nothing but buttons and a single DIN radio. And no OnStar. That said, if you're a fan of the LT4/5 and a mind bending driving experience there is a solution....
