Thanks for the informative post and really sorry to hear about this. I dug into a number of threads about 6.2 lifter failures on the trucks and Corvettes and wow, it's been a long-standing problem it seems, and clearly something GM can't figure out. They must have 'mathed' it out and deemed the...
I doubt this is the case with a Blackwing but the dealer has to "punch" the warranty if the car sits unsold on the lot for too long. Should You Buy a Punched Vehicle? | Auto Credit Express
With those miles, it seems like an attempt to unload a car bought to flip. It seems like a correction is happening and even though I stand to lose out, it can't come soon enough. Those guys are the reason dealers had ADM and why enthusiast cars in general have been unattainable.
Hm, @Rob what do you think about adding into to the Blackwing registry database where known engine failures could be logged? It would be interesting to see an actual data set e.g. range of VINs, build date etc.
I don't have 4BW experience, but with the 5BW, even after a couple of years, the car still feels special in 'normal' day-to-day driving - just by giving the accelerator a squeeze. You feel the latent potential all the time. Not to mention the relative rarity.
Here's what I'll say about modern...
I've owned a couple of 981 Caymans (S and GT4) and I suspect the GTS 4.0 is close to the GT4.
1. The shift feel is definitely on par or better than the Tremec our BWs are using. The modern non-GT 911's have the 7-speeds that are kind of meh, but the Cayman still keeps the six and it's sweet...
For purely spirited canyon driving the Cayman is in a completely different class. If you have an allocation for a build though I would strongly consider the manual. The six speed is sweet and it adds a level of engagement to the car that you will miss coming from a manual BW.
Yup, I was going to say the same thing - the portion of actual enthusiasts buying brand new BMW M products is probably quite small. Most enthusiasts don't have much money but some have a whole lot. For those, they will release a lighter and better CS variant in very limited numbers for absurd...
I'm a Bay Area AAA customer and my rates went up similarly - but I don't think it's LexisNexis. All kinds of insurance (homeowners in particular) is going bananas in California and I've had Smart Driver disabled since Day 1.
I am absolutely not a photographer but my favorite pictures are usually ones that minimize the side profile of the car. If I can, I try to shoot in soft light like 'Golden Hour' and if I'm using an iPhone camera, zooming in to 2x to take the picture does wonders too. Finally if the wheels are...
For a North Bay Drive - send me a PM and I believe I can create a 'North Bay Drive' group here.
My suggestion - we meet for the Pre-Stage C&C at the Marin Civic Center at 7:50am on July 20th to get a Blackwing corral going, then drive this route: Pre-Stage Suggested Route - Google My Maps
I lived in the Oakland Hills for a bit, and man I got daggers from all my neighbors for washing my V2 Wagon out in the street. So Hood. I'm supposed to "have a man for that" :ROFLMAO:
Sounds interesting! Keep me posted, hopefully this turns into multiple drives on different weekends on different routes. I'm in the North Bay which is a real stretch for a lot of folks, but the roads up here are epic.
I'm the sole Blackwing I'm aware of that's been to a Breakfast Club Rally...
