What did you all drive back in the day?

Due to my vestibular issues, I don't switch cars often as it takes me a long time to adjust. My first car purchase was a used '92 Mercury Topaz. I drove it for four years but have no pictures of it. Second purchase was trading in the Topaz for a new '00 Nissan Sentra SE, added Nismo suspension...

    What did you cross shop?

My original target was a non-Blackwing CT5-V and my main comparison was a TLX Type S. I couldn't get an allocation for the 5V, found a 4BW matching my desired color combination and some of the considerations pushing me to the 5V changed. So, I paid the extra money to move up the performance class.

Yep, it was you. I was westbound, heading home from family in Bridgeport.

I think I passed you on I-70 around 4 PM. The yellow caught my attention! I was not in my 4BW. :(

PDR camera used as a front parking camera

IMO, the PDR camera is too high to be useful as a parking aid.

Add this to the kill switch conversation

This is another one of those things where, even before you get to the should it be done conversation, you have to figure out if it can be done. And based on my personal experience, it cannot be reliabily done. It requires either active GPS to geolocate the car along with a map having current...

Help -- Should I do it? New member check-in...

Probably those cars are fully loaded by default due to being a special edition production, so the actual price gap due to the special edition specific features are not the total price difference from base MSRP. And those special edition cars might be the only reliable way to get certain options...

2023 CT4-V Blackwing no serial number on steering wheel

You don't have to get CF1 to get the upgraded steering wheel. On the VIN plate, the first number indicates CT4 or CT5, the second number is the transmission.

Loaded 4BWs don't make sense to me

    I got you beat, mine was $82K. 🤪 I didn't really want a 4BW, let alone a 5BW, but couldn't secure a non-Blackwing 5V, needed a car and in-stock pickings were slim when I got mine. I never seriously considered a 5BW, because I didn't need the bigger car, the bigger engine (I also have a C7...

No cylinder deactivation on the 5Wing Manual transmission?

One of the fuel economy related pages (right side I believe) will give an indicator of V4 or V8, showing if AFM is engaged or not. At least on my A8 C7 Z06, that indicator is really the only way I can tell it's activated.

No cylinder deactivation on the 5Wing Manual transmission?

Have you M6 5BW owners tried driving in snow/ice mode and seeing if AFM activates?

No cylinder deactivation on the 5Wing Manual transmission?

At least on the M7 C7 Z06s, the LT4 AFM would only engage in Eco mode. In the other drive modes it would not engage. Also, the A8 cars won't engage AFM if in manual shifter mode. I don't know how the 5BW functions, but my guess is it would behave similarly. The LF4 doesn't have AFM nor auto...

    Kill switch in 2026

The law also has provisions allowing NHTSA the ability to extend the timeline as well as reporting to Congress why such a system cannot be deployed by the timelines given.

    Kill switch in 2026

As someone personally impacted by drunk driving, I'm all for things that can reduce it, but yeah, I'm in the same spot as you on the risk of unintended consequences and all. Part of their research seems to be do you even completely lock down the car or leave it in a limited mode (e.g. limit the...

P.S. They also are taking into account impact of not only false positives, but true positives where locking the car might be a worse thing.

    Kill switch in 2026

The actual NHTSA release appears to address everything you mentioned. The main purpose of that Jalopnik article was to generate web clicks from people outraged by something. It says NHTSA took a "big step" towards something but misrepesents what that step was. They make it sound like this...

    A10 crew

It gets more aggressive/faster/not-sure-how-to-describe if it detects certain types of driving, which will invoke performance shifting mode.
