    CT4BW vs. BMW M2 (F87, 2016-2018)

M2 never got the B58, it got an upgraded N55 until the M2C came out (S55), now the S58. And BMW has a long history of putting non-S engines in M cars. If it was only about the engine, our CT4 Blackwings would be DOA because the LF4 is just an adequate powerplant.

    CT5BW Question about lugging engine

If you've got some time to kill, I'd read up on gear ratios. The shorter the gear ratio (both final: ((rear diff)) and specific gear), the more acceleration. Revs will always climb faster in lower gears given the same throttle input. Here's a screenshot of the ratios from Car and Driver. You'll...

    CT5BW Question about lugging engine

6th is for highway cruising. Light throttle only until the revs come up. Yes, lugging is not great for the engine. That's what downshifting is for (and really part of the joy of owning a manual: rowing gears). There are a lot of articles around engine lugging, LSPI, etc. Basically high load with...

Has anyone owned both 4vBW and 5vBW?

BMW's newer motors run lean and hot (230-240F is operating temp). My B58 ran lean. Lean + hot = more efficient. But also other companies spend a lot of money on engine R&D, whereas the LF4 is really just a souped up LFX.

When Do You Change Your Oil?

If yours is a 4BW with CF1 front splitter, you're gonna need the extensions as well.

About to Order, Engine Failure Questions

My personal opinion, I wouldn't touch a GM V8. They're failing so often that GM can't even warranty them. As far as 5BW's, there are a few that have eaten themselves. There's still all the AFM/DoD hardware inside even if the mode isn't activated. Couple that with main bearing issues. Hell even...

Random questions from a 2025 CT4 BW owner

Most modern manuals come with hill assist. And if you're rolling back on inclines, need to be quicker on the clutch/throttle engagement. You can turn off the setting for the lights when it senses the key is nearby. But the sound you're hearing is the fuel pump priming.

CT4-V Disappointed after lengthy Test drive

Maybe I'm doing something wrong (or right lol), but I find myself having fun with the car around town. Access road turnarounds, hairpin turns, even just mashing the throttle in 2nd or sometimes 3rd can get the rear end to get squirly and it's an absolute hoot. I can easily get the rear to slide...

CT4-V Disappointed after lengthy Test drive

@jeffcole I understand your sentiments. I also came from BMW world. In regards to an F87 M2C, that thing has a muscle car chassis, whereas the Alpha is more European. I know, sounds crazy and backwards. F chassis M cars in general were slide monsters lol. Made for fun shenanigans but even a...

    HP Increases

The only extra cost due to Global B is the $1500 ECM unlock. Everything else is roughly the same on previous GM LT4 platforms. Buying a $100k sedan and complaining about an extra $1500... gotta pay to play, sir!

    Hello from Austin, Tx

Yo! I'm in the area as well (Killeen). I'm in Austin frequently for UT football (season tickets). Down to meet up for Pistons or CotA Cars and Coffee!

    Hello from Austin, Tx

305's in the rear and once warmed up and I can be a complete monkey with the throttle.

Amazon (ZL1 Style) Jack Pad on CT4

72" Race Ramps and I ended up buying the extension they sell. The extensions worked like a charm.

    High Oil Pressure - Question?

Most of the engine wear is on startup where the oil has to make it through all the passages as quickly as possible. I agree a 0W-40 probably isn't hurting much, but my pockets not that deep to stomach an LF4 replacement should something go wrong lol.

    High Oil Pressure - Question?

You really risking your warranty over wanting slightly thicker oil lol. Run the spec viscosity. Choosing a good quality oil is more important than running something thicker. The guys at Spring Mountain beat the crap out of the cars in Nevada heat on the track with 5W-30.

    5BW Cylinder Deactivation

You can have it tuned out. The proper way is to replace all the lifters, new camshaft, plug it, tune, etc. Around $5-$6k.

Check engine light at 900 miles

Nope. Just like to give people the benefit of the doubt. I'd like to believe that the dealer would get him in sooner if they could. Warranty work pays shit, but it's still pay instead of a tech being idle. Now if they prove they're just being lazy, slow, incompetent, etc then of course F them lol.

Amazon (ZL1 Style) Jack Pad on CT4

Really appreciate this thread. I finally got a weekend to tackle this with some Race Ramps. Those with CF1/2, the ramps did rub on the front splitter a little, luckily mine is PPF'd. Ended up using some towels right before the lip touched the ramp on the way down. Luckily not too much dmg to the...

Check engine light at 900 miles

Why does everyone keep bringing up the price of the car lol. Sounds like the dealer is acting with integrity and not giving special treatment just because his vehicle might be more expensive than most they have in queue.
