I know very little about car audio these days as well. Most of my education is from perusing Crutchfield catalogs 20 years ago. It's so complicated now with locked head units, factory amps, and ANC, etc. I did a little research, but talking to a pro installer was the key.

Actually, I'm referring to the small round fasteners that have a round head that you see after everything is installed. The metal clips are made to stay in the molded plastic, but if you take them out enough you are bound to lose one or break one. Trim tools help a lot.
