I’m also in Illinois. The 20+ degree swings the same day generally aren’t an issue. If it’s 30 in the morning and 55 mid day the winter tires can accommodate. Same with if it’s 40 in the morning or 65 in the afternoon the summer tires are fine.
The bigger issue is when it’s 75 out then snows...
The PS4S for the Blackwing has a Cup 2 compound in them. If you’re driving them in cold temperatures you can damage the tire. This happened to me with my Cup 2s on my RS while I was waiting for winter tires. I drove over gravel on the road and it took chunks out of the tire. I wouldn’t risk it.
I live in the Midwest and have the OEM tires mounted to Apex wheels and put a dedicated winter tire on the stock wheels. If you put an all season tire on your Blackwing you are doing the car and yourself a huge disservice. The OEM tires are very, very good. Tires are probably the most important...
Looks like a Petit Petaud edition will be in Naperville in a few months. I couldn’t figure out how to get a breakdown of the price but it’s showing the PP package as $25K and the cash price as $101K. Pretty steep for a 4BW that is cosmetic only package. This is nearly $40K over what I paid for...
I went recently and while it was a great experience, I think you would be better off saving the ~$4k for local track days and just going once when you buy a new Blackwing. If you decide you aren’t buying a new Blackwing you could always decide to go later. If I were upgrading from the 4 to the 5...
I’m
Not exactly the comparison you are looking for, but I came from a CLA 45 AMG to a 4 Blackwing, so my comparison will be through that lens. In terms of which car is the better daily, I would choose the 4 BW. I find the seats to be more comfortable, the ride quality is better, and the...
I don’t think so. They had electric blue Cadillacs which I know were not available for 2024. I think they had some other colors that are a couple years old. Only one 2025 that I saw.
They talk about this at Spring Mountain and if the vehicle is sitting unmoved so there is a constant point of pressure in the same spot of the tire in the cold it can cause cracking. The Spring Mountain instructor recommended putting the vehicle in air.
Don’t you have a Focus RS? Haha no need to take anything else in the snow, I could drive circles around people with the Michelin Alpin 4s on that car. I would drive around in drift mode just hooning around every corner in the snow, so controllable and fun.
And I agree. My 4 BW with X Ice tires...
I’ll be there. Really looking forward to getting back on the track, it has been a few years since I’ve last been. When I bought a Focus RS many years ago they did something similar and it was a great experience.
I don’t think you’ll get an accurate rate on this. I only learned of Spring Mountain through this forum. There was no marketing about this from my dealer nor Cadillac. I’m not sure how many people who aren’t active on this forum will even know this exists. All that typed, you can measure how...
The owner will be the single biggest factor in determining how long the car will last. Driving style and maintenance will be huge factors, along with how much money you are willing to spend. How many miles a year do you drive, do you actually anticipate driving 300K-400K miles? I put about 10K...
