My CT5 has a special feature where the rear quarter window, instead of being glass, has been replaced with a black plastic triangle. You may think, surely not on a $100K car, but maybe it was set up to help with bipping :)
In all seriousness though I always think of this as a Bay Area problem...
Sorry guys, I probably wasn't too clear in my question.
It's my understanding that an overfill is also not great for the engine and am asking a dumb question about how to read that on our dipstick since there seems to be no way of reading above 'full'.
Agree with earlier poster it's wise to...
OK, so I'm probably being a dip-stick about this but I have a question about our dip-stick. This is for checking a dealer performed oil change for potential overfill.
With apologies for the lighting on the picture... the oil is right up to the top of the crosshatch. Seems good... full. There's...
I think you have to have an active OnStar plan with Smart Driver turned on - apparently some dealers opted people in without them knowing the implications. In my case it was off by default from the start.
I don't currently have an OnStar plan, and went through the app looking for it and...
Given how long this has been going on I think we can eliminate a single bad engine builder from consideration. Given the fact that various engine failures are still affecting cars from 2022 through to present it's probably not even a materials or supplier problem. That pretty much leaves it as a...
OK, so follow-up dumb question. How can I tell whether the recent service overfilled the oil? I've driven it >100mi since the service without any apparent issue, but when checking my dipstick to take my first oil consumption reading, there's some oil above the crosshatch section and on the stick...
Well, to reset my baseline, upon the low oil warning, I took the car into the dealer for an oil change (oil life indicator was just under 30%). Between the last oil change and the low oil warning, I drove only about 4000 miles over about 8 months.
I'm hoping they just underfilled it last time...
Porsche had issues with the M96 and M97 engine used in multiple years of 911s and Caymans that could result in catastrophic engine failure (google IMS Bearing). Although the aftermarket came up with some solutions, Porsche simply redesigned the engine on newer models to eliminate said bearing...
13 on the tracker across all model years. It's not really a scientific sample just whoever posts about it here, plus the one from Car&Driver.
For context a rough google search shows 1,763 CT5V Blackwings were produced in MY2022 and there are 4 MY2022 failures on the tracker.
Powertrain gets a 6-year/70,000-mile warranty but beyond that I would absolutely be looking at extended warranty or holding aside $30K to self-insure the engine. Based on the tracker I've been running here it does seem like the failure manifests early for most engines so you might be better off...
It's weird, my garage surface is quite level and I've taken oil measurements there before. This morning I took another measurement and it looks like there's a very small amount of oil about midway up the crosshatch now (i.e. it's thin, like there's not much there). Go figure.
My V2 Wagon had...
I've got a 5BW with about 20,000 miles on it. All 20,000 miles were put on by me (well except for the delivery mileage). No problems to-date with the engine (knock on wood). No sign of excessive oil consumption until now.
Yesterday, I went a long, spirited backroad drive, came home and parked...
I owned a 991.1 Carrera S (with the ducktail) and I traded it after a year and a half of owning it. I've driven a 4BW at Spring Mountain and own a 5BW and a 991.2 now... so FWIW
1. The shifter is going to be much better in the Blackwing - the 7spd in the 991.1 is probably Porsche's low point...
I think (hope) that values over the long term will look a bit better.
It looks like Cadillac are making as many as they can sell, and will keep doing so for the foreseeable ... so that blows a lot of speculators out of the water.
Honestly though, I think I would rather that than something like...
I'm not exactly what you'd call an EV enthusiast having only ever test driven the original Tesla Roadster when it came out, and a Lucid Air GT. I tried the Lucid because of Jason Cammisa's reviews, the fact that the CEO is an ex Lotus engineer, and having seen them testing at Thunderhill...
