Good news to you all. If you pop your 5BW motor they will send you a new one from Michigan. It's not the typical LT4 that GM puts into the ZL1 and Z06. Loads more titanium and different components. Can @Rob set up an order tracker for my motor now? :(
Sounds like they'll have all the parts for...
I confirmed with my buddy at Caddy. The banks are completely closed for CT5-V Blackwings. They're still accepting CT5-Vs and 4-V Blackwings. He said it's reminiscent of the CT6-V closing allocation and then being discontinued. I hope not but if you look we're losing a ton of V8 high horsepower...
Don't even worry about it. I doubt they actually track anything. Onstar sent me my performance review on my blackwing and it said it was A-OK. Even though it's currently getting the motor pulled out of it because of friction welding interior components.
I’m VIN 0025. It’d be hard to actually dictate what cars may be affected as the crankshaft more than likely comes from another supplier. I’d assume the VINs closes to mine would potentially contain a similar issue. Again I’m really hoping that it’s just a fluke and I got the shaft on this one...
My only hope is that it was just my car affected. The worst thing would be if other blackwings start popping at super low mileage due to a similar situation. As shitty as it is the smart thing for GM to do would be to look at all the motors that were assembled same day as mine and check for said...
Disregard the service manager on that one. The tech discovered that the crankshaft had a defect/nick in the oil supply channel and that’s why there was no lubrication to those bearings. Not the builders fault more than likely but definitely cause for concern with other Blackwing LT4 motors...
Well boys here’s the damage. To be honest it’s impressive that the engine held up for 288 miles and this much heat with basically no oil going to those bearings.
New motor has been ordered
Alright so we’ve done the full teardown. Cylinder 3 and 4 rod bearings fused to the crank due to lack of lubrication. Complete manufacturing error and according to the service manager was the result of my engine builder. New motor will be sourced from a different builder. Pictures will follow
the motor that is going to be put back into the vehicle is going to be another hand built motor. More often than nought on the carfax it will be posted that the power train was inspected, not “engine replaced”. I understand where you’re coming from and I am also upset about it as well. But at...
Now now all of you. Until I go to the dealership tomorrow and take a look at the motor which has now been removed from my 288 mile car and know for certain if it was human error, or most likely just a bad part, let's not all give Crystal a bad time. Shit happens. Ms Cheeto fingers probably used...
It’s not an enterprise car. It’s an actual dealership loaner car. To be honest for what I use it for it’s not that bad. I don’t really care too much, the weather is shitty so I’m not driving much. 2-3 weeks in a mom mobile that gets 25-30mpg is fine lol. I’ll have to make it up
I want my name...
Maybe it’s because this whole experience with getting the car and having it sit in a lot for months has been just so ass I’m not even surprised that something like this has happened lol. It’ll be fixed at the end of the day. Crying about it won’t really do much. That being said I will be...
Results are in. Cylinder 4 rod bearing spun. It was more than likely not torqued properly since there’s 30 thousandths of play in it. The noise is the piston moving up and down and the rod smacking into things. Soooooo it’s gonna need a new motor, and I hope it doesn’t arrive with Crystal’s name...
Yeah it’ll be a new block. Officially I think I’m the second person to have a Blackwing completely fail mechanically. Of course car and driver gets to be the first. Anytime sir
Well boys. Getting the call from the dealership tomorrow morning. Heads are off and.... well it's probably rod bearings lol. Just my luck but she's gonna need a new long block.
