It’s super annoying because the X close box in the upper RH side seems to be need to be touched twice to get it to close.

So it seems to exist, haven’t really tested. Enter Track mode, press traction control button twice and then twist the selector knob past the last PTM mode. It won’t show anything in the RH side anymore but down in the bottom there’s a new icon. Looks like this:

There is no way I would wait until the idiot light comes on before checking and adding oil. I think GM recommends checking it at least monthly with the stick, and there are some who check it at every gas fill-up. I’m in the ‘at least monthly’ camp, and that’s only after more frequent checks...
