They've been doing this since Day 1, and it has never made sense.
No M3 review ever written has talked about how much better it would be with the M5 engine. They just talked about how much better the M3 was than everything else in its class (until the 4BW came along). Yet EVERY 4BW review...
Car: CT4 Auto
Time of Year: late June
AutoX best time: 2nd fastest in class; a CT5 beat me by 0.01 seconds.
Roadcourse: East Bowl
Best Lap Time: 1:25
Top Speed: 130 mph
I have prior track experience, but it was long ago in a car with 201 fewer horsepower. I was tentative.
Still...
The tach was useful on the track at Spring Mountain, for sure.
For daily driving in the city I find the HUD distracting. Out on the open road I like it.
I do like the "pared down" version of the sat nav that the HUD displays. I find it more intuitive to follow than the full blown version...
Replaced the rear tires this week. I decided I didn't want to mess with patching. The tires were already at least half-worn out, and if I ever get up the stones to track it I don't want to do that on a patched tire.
Ordered 2 new TPC Spec rears off Tire Rack. They were mounted at Discount...
I own a manual and intentionally booked an auto, simply because I wanted to experience it.
IMHO, the auto-rev matching downshift really makes driving a manual kind of a non-event. And with modern autos having paddle shifters and lockup torque converters, well, the differences between auto...
Over the past week:
1) Hit 5,000 miles. Car was delivered 9 months ago today.
2) Realized I have a slow leak in my right rear. Imma try take the wheel off this weekend to see whether I find the problem. If I see a screw in a sketchy location I'll just order 2 new tires off Tire Rack...
Did the same. 2018 WRX STI Limited. Pic below is when I was actually trading it in at Sewell. The salesperson had already removed the plates when this was taken. No regrets.
They used it a little when I was there last month. They showed us one or two corners from one session.
It was an interesting tool. For me personally, following directly behind an instructor was better for finding the right line.
I can believe it. Also factor in brake pads and the cost of putting on a track alignment and then converting it back to street alignment. Also that first diff fluid change. It adds up.
My recollection from doing HPDE 16 years ago in an Evo VIII was that it was costing me about $600/weekend...
We were on the "East Bowl".
East track has two configurations: a longer one that bypasses the "bowl" section and a shorter one that goes through the "bowl". This was the shorter one.
Yeah, the instructor did a 1:17 in my 4BW while chatting with me constantly.
Did Spring Mountain on Monday and Tuesday.
Struggling Mentally
I had an absolute blast. I wasn't fast, though. I was decently quick within my run group and was running the line from the very start, but I was with total track noobs so that didn't mean anything.
I was having trouble making...
I'll be there next Monday and Tuesday. Daily highs in Pahrump are forecast to be 13 degrees and 19 degrees lower than here at home. With the bonus of humidity 20% lower.
I'd buy that for a dollar!
