What do you do for a living?

Retired 3 years ago after a 40 year career in the offshore oil industry around the world; from summer hire RSTBT out of ASU to ending my career as Master/OIM on dynamic positioned drillship in the Gulf of America LOL. Started at the bottom and finished at the top. Loved working half a year and having the rest of the time off for family/hobbies/travel.

Quite a few people I know from Lafayette area of Louisiana work offshore.

... Sorry I'm ignorant about what that is, but it sounds interesting. Could you explain what RSTBT stands for?

Hi.

Hopeful future owner of a Blackwing here. I would have to buy used tho. Can’t afford a 100k car.

I work in the natural gas field. I make about $115k a year, I calculate that I can afford one once they dip into the low 80’s or 70’s.

Just wondering what the demographics are for Blackwing owners.

Worked in the Motorcycle industry for my entire life. Started out pushing a broom, promoted to parts guy, then parts manager, I became a motorcycle tech for eight years, then a salesman for almost 25 years, after that I was a sales manager, then a general manager and finally a operations director for Honda my last 10 years. Retired in January of this year. Started riding dirt bikes at nine years old with my Dad and my brother so I always loved motorcycles and always will. Was very successful in the motorcycle field even though everybody told me it was a "dead end" career. I did not listen to them and had a blast! Have owned a bunch of cool bikes and cars over my lifetime. I chose the right career for myself and very satisfied with the outcome.

Small business owner using the 5BW as my company car

Wow, I’ve never heard of someone who spent 40 years in offshore oil.

4 summers out of school offshore, then worked at a bank for 6 months (hated it) and went back and never left. Job locations: USA Gulf of MEXICO, US East Coast, US West Coast, Brazil, Singapore, Korea, Norway, UAE, Colombia, crossed the equator 6 times, been through the Straits of Magellan (Falkland Islands war broke out as we were in the Straits) I was in Chile when Pinochet was in power and witnessed big time military ops(live fire - about 3 miles away) while we were refueling while on our way to CA.

I was a graphic designer/artist and worked in the entertainment industry. If you’ve watched a DVD, then you’ve probably seen my work. I retired about 15 years ago and have been building traditional hot rods a couple days a week ever since. These are a few of the cars we have built (only the green 32 and black t bird are mine, the red 31 belongs to my fil).

Wow, is that a Delahaye? Beautiful! Like rolling art.

It was a fiberglass reproduction of Ralph Lauren’s Bugatti 57sc. It was powered by a BMW inline 6.

Ah! Ok, the rivets threw me. Still a head turner. Must sound nice too!

It did sound very nice. It was only at the shop a short time and I never got to drive more than moving it around.

Degreed accountant. Worked for a large architectural design, engineering, and construction management firm fresh out of college. The Saudis stuck their finger in the sand and said we want a refinery here....moved over a little bit, stuck their finger in the sand again, and said we want a city here to man it. I sent them bills for design, engineering, and construction management. Bills were well over a million a month...and that was back (45+ years ago) when a million dollars was serious money.

Did that for a year. My dad's farming partner decided to retire. He asked me if I wanted to farm. I said, "hell yeah, anything to get me out of Houston." I put in 38 rice crops before I hung it up after the 2016 crop. My oldest son is doing it now. I help as long as the job isn't too tough. At 70 years of age, I've grown a little soft. The good news is my son is an excellent mechanic. I was good back in the day, but he's on another level. He loves to work on hot rods and I love taking fine rides to the next level. Previous project was a heads/cam C6 that we did at the farm shop. 500rwhp and perfect manners. Current project is power upgrades on a 5 Blackwing.

Life is good.
