There are a lot of people who can be called a father, but very few truly earn that title every single day. I’m beyond grateful that I get to call one of those men my dad.
My dad has spent his entire life making sacrifices for the people he loves. Every long day at work, every late night, every missed holiday, every difficult decision it was all so our family could have a better life. He never asked for recognition. He simply put his head down, worked hard, and made sure the people he loved were taken care of.
Throughout his career at General Motors, he’s accomplished things that most people could only dream of. He earned the Boss Kettering Award, General Motors’ highest technical honor, an award reserved for those who make extraordinary contributions through innovation and engineering excellence. He was trusted to lead a team of 22–23 people, a responsibility that reflects not only his technical knowledge but also the respect he’s earned as a leader. He was also selected to be part of the launch team for the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, helping bring one of Cadillac’s most iconic performance cars to life. His career even took him across the world, including time spent working in Thailand, where he continued solving problems, leading others, and representing General Motors with the same dedication he’s always shown.
But as incredible as those accomplishments are, they still aren’t what make me admire him the most. I’ve watched him stand beside my mom through her battle with cancer, never once leaving her side. Through every doctor’s appointment, every difficult day, and every uncertain moment, he was there. I watched him show that same love and strength while caring for his own mom during her fight with cancer. No matter how heavy life became, he carried that weight without ever complaining because that’s just who he is.
He’s been there for me every single day of my life. Every fishing trip, every lesson, every accomplishment, every mistake, every challenge he’s always been in my corner. He taught me that success isn’t measured by awards or titles. It’s measured by your character, your integrity, and how you treat the people who depend on you.
The older I get, the more I realize how much I never noticed growing up. The extra hours. The stress. The responsibility. The sacrifices that were made quietly so I could have opportunities he never had. Everything he did was for our family.
People may know him as an engineer, a leader, an innovator, or the recipient of General Motors’ highest technical award. I know him as the man who taught me how to work hard, how to never give up, how to be humble in success, and how to always put family first.
Dad, thank you for every sacrifice you’ve made, every lesson you’ve taught me, and every moment you’ve been there when I needed you. Everything you’ve done has shaped the man I’m becoming, and I can only hope to live my life with the same strength, humility, and selflessness that you’ve shown every single day.
You’ve been by my side since the day I was born, and I know you’ll always be there no matter what. I couldn’t ask for a better role model, a better mentor, or a better father.
I love you more than words will ever be able to express. I’m proud to be your son, and I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to make you as proud of me as I am of you.
