Carfax Report Question

I thought about looking at a used CT4-V BW, however the Carfax report states there was an accident reported with minor damage. Is there any way to find out more information, such as getting a copy of the repair estimate? If I paid $45 for a Carfax report, vs. the one listed on the dealer's website, would it provide such information?

I don't think so. At least I've never seen one like that. Maybe if you tracked down the previous owner, you could get that info.

No. The only place this record would exist is with the previous owner, the shop that did the repair and the insurance company that paid for them.

Anytime I see "damage" or accident, I'm out. I'd only buy it if it was for a very short term thing, going to be a track car or I'm just going to beat the F out it. When you go to sell or trade it, everyone will have the same questions as you, and most dealers will really cut your trade value.

I would have a body shop guy look the car over. They can tell where any work has been done. My 2014 Dodge Challenger RT got a big door ding on the passenger door body line. No PDR was going to fix it. I put in an insurance claim and it paid out over $1500 to repair it. I now have a "minor" damage report on Car Fax. There really is NOTHING wrong with my car. My friends ask me to look over any used cars they are buying and and I can tell pretty quickly where work had been done and if it was a major repair.

Depends on what it was and if you have proof to back it up. I had Safelite eat my V3 spoiler and they replaced it with a new OEM one. But unfortunately, Carfax got wind of it and put it on their report. I had photos and reciept from Safelite to prove that it was that stupid minor and never had an issue selling for fair market price.

For many years, ford had an issue with explorers where they didn't properly clean the stamped aluminum stamped hoods before painting them. The hood was contaminated by the steel tooling and within a year or two the paint along the leading edge of the hood would bubble up and peel off. Take a look at any explorer and chances are the hood edge is peeling. Anyway, ford was quietly replacing and repainting the hoods of owners who complained. I complained and had the hood replaced and painted under warranty. When it was time to sell, I ran the carfax and realized carfax entered this replacement as minor front damage. I explained this in my add, but every single buyer would bring this up and wanted to lowball me because "the car was in an accident". I sent receipts to carfax and they removed this entry from record within a week.
