I made this thing. Could probably use a bit of improvement, but works well enough for me, as it gets any cups out of the way of the shifter, see attached image (2024 CT5-BW)

Obviously it was tailored to my car, and fits pretty much perfect, unsure if there's much if any tolerances between cars in the relevant areas, but take it with a grain of salt (can't guarantee it won't scratch anything).

If there's anyone who wants to give it a try, let me know. I would attach the STL here if I could; this isn't an attempt at cash, just figuring if I had this issue someone else might too.

Nice design! Moving the cup holder out from behind the shifter is a good idea.

Did you print using PLA, PETG or ASA? I would be worried that PLA might melt/warp on a hot day.

I printed with PAHT on a BambuLabH2C. Used their now discontinued support for PA as the support material, but from what I hear, ABS would function as a decent replacement of a support for PA.

Very cool idea. Tall cups are definitely in the way of the shifter when both slots are filled.

I am one that never leaves the house without my Yeti full of water. The cupholders in both BW4 and 5 suck and might be my biggest complaint about the cars. Clearly not a single engineer considered people might have drinks in their cars and still need to shift gears.

Coming from German cars, we drivers are meant to feel lucky there are cup holders at all. BMW didn't include them until the mid 90s and Porsche held out until 2005. I guess Cadillac imitated that aspect of the European sports sedan as well.
