It will help increase the life of the pads and rotors. I actually did my very first event with the car totally stock (no track alignment, no brake ducts), and while the car still performed quite well, it was starting to chew through the tires and brakes faster than I would have liked/expected. I...
They are a bit of a pain as you have to remove the rotors, both front and rear, to be able to pull the heat shields off, but it's not the worst thing ever. I run with them on all the time and I drive the car daily. I typically run a track event once a month during the summer, so it's not worth...
Make sure you disconnect the battery before doing anything. It's possible if you leave the battery installed and you have the key on you while working, the car will self test the brakes and that's not ideal when there's no pads installed.
Other than that it's really simple, just punch out the...
I ran the SR11 compound from EBC for most of this past season and they were awesome. The stock pads are excellent if you are starting out in HPDE but once you get faster, you can eat through the compound very quickly. I ate through a set of stock pads in a single event at the beginning of this...
Were all the driving assists (TC, stability control) on?
There's a particularly slick stretch of road I drive on everyday and have had this happen to me when I go full throttle on it with everything on. It aggressively tries to prevent any wheel spin. I've had it cut fuel around 6k as well...
I wanted to give them a try this year for track use since I've heard lots of good things, but I didn't want to venture outside of stock sizes. So I stuck with the stock Michelins. Definitely going to try them out next year now that stock sizes are available.
I ordered a set of the DP81140.14SR11 from ECS (who now have a lifetime replacement replacement program like FCP Euro) and was able to test their fitment today. I can confirm that this is the part number you want for the rear pads. The only thing I ran into was that the backing plates were...
Reviving this thread with another positive track experience with the EBC SR11s. This is my second season tracking the 4BW and so far my experience with the stock pads is that they like to wear quickly when tracking. The original set of front pads lasted about 4 days for me (nearly down to metal)...
Yep the brakes can still be bled the old fashioned way. Even though there is a brake by wire system, the brake pedal is mechanically connected to the master cylinder. I did it that way last year in prep for the track and I will be doing it the same way this year.
+1 on using rodent deterrents/traps. They will chew through wires like you would not believe. The further those little guys stay away from my cars, the better.
Putting my car away is just another reason for me to fuel my car addiction and have another vehicle. I've got a GTI and with a nice...
I've got the Watkins Glen edition and I jack my car up using the 1.5 ton floor jack you can get from Harbor Freight and a small piece of 2x4 wood. Plenty of clearance between the jack and carbon side skirts. I track my car so it's up in the air quite often. I have yet to damage the car by...
Guess I was wrong about the wheel. You learn something new every day. Everything that I have ever seen related to either a 4BW or 5BW has the BW exclusive wheel in it, so I had no idea you could get anything other than it.
That kinda sucks that you have to pay extra to get the BW exclusive...
The V-mode button puts the car into the aptly named V-mode. Just a brief description, this mode is like My Mode, but you get a few more customization parameters. It also allows you to activate PTM modes higher than Dry without going into Track mode and, with a PTM mode selected, enables things...
